This Automobile Kills Fascists

Recently I have been getting into Woody Guthrie. I pursued his music because of the Mermaid Avenue albums by Billy Bragg and Wilco. Off Woody’s box set, The Asch Recordings, the first disc is called This Land is Your Land. The second song is called, so aptly, “Car Song.” Woody’s sound is quintessential to the Depression and Post-Depression eras, and to some his sound may get monotonous, but I think most people can agree that this song is truly unique. Starting off with Guthrie’s burbling lips doing their impression of a puttering car, this light-hearted song has such innocent lyrics that it takes effort to be in a bad mood after listening it. I am not going to analyze it anymore, just listen for yourself.
